Carers Rights Day
Friday 5th December 2008
Carers Rights Day aims to increase carers’ take-up of benefits, to inform them of their rights and to raise awareness of the needs of carers. This year’s theme is “Making the Most of Your Money”.
An Information and Advice Event
with a range of activities will be held in
Cefn Coed Community Centre
10.30am – 3.30pm
and all carers in the county borough are welcome to attend.
The Mayor, Cllr Clive Jones, and the Carers Champion for Merthyr Tydfil, Cllr Gareth Jones, will be attending and a buffet lunch is available.
Nationally:
- Each year, 2.3 million people become carers
- Last year, 2.6 million carers gained new rights in the workplace but many still do not know about them
- Carers are missing out on £740m each year in unclaimed benefits, yet often struggle to make ends meet.
