Mental Health

This project supports service users, carers and the Voluntary Sector. It assists with the planning and delivery of mental health services in Rhondda Cynon Taff and Merthyr Tydfil.

The project has two workers whose work includes Merthyr Tydfil. These are a Mental Health Development Officer who works with carers and Voluntary Sector organisations, and a Service User Involvement Development Officer.

What Does the Project do for Mental Health Service Users and Carers?

  • Consults by various means with service users and carers on the services provided
  • Offers support and training to help you convey your views to planners and get involved in the day to day running of services - for example the recruitment of workers
  • Assists service users and carers to set up groups and networks so that you can support each other, lobby for change and develop services

How Does the Project Support Voluntary Sector Organisations?

  • The project works with any Voluntary Sector organisation with an interest in Mental Health
  • Provides support, information and training on issues such as good practice, management issues, funding and developing new initiatives
  • Facilitates regular meetings of a Mental Health Forum for Rhondda Cynon Taff and Merthyr Tydfil and makes links with other Voluntary Sector networks and forums
  • Assists Voluntary Sector organisations in exchanging information, exploring opportunities for collaboration and campaigning
  • Support and coordinate representation on planning groups and in other partnership working

The project can also provide training, information and support to other partner agencies (for example, statutory agencies) about working with Voluntary Sector agencies, users and carers.
