ICT News and Information
At present VAMT provide ICT(Information Communication Technology) support to voluntary groups and organisations across the Merthyr borough, including training, website development, technical support, purchasing advice and much more via our ICT Technical Officer.
Derek Emanuel took up this post in July 2007 and is based at the Voluntary Action Centre. Derek has several years experience within the ICT industry and will look forward to sharing his knowledge and experience with any voluntary groups and organisations who would like any help.
The aim of the ICT Support Service is to provide help and information to any voluntary and community groups who are either new to the computer world, or who wish to learn more and improve their groups’ use of ICT. Technology can be used in many ways to improve a group’s efficiency and how they operate and communicate. We can help groups to look at ways in which they can use ICT to expand and grow.
If you are a voluntary or community group/organisation please contact Derek Emanuel on 01685 353914 or
e-mail Derek Emanuel for any further information.
Future plans...
Voluntary Groups and Organisations within Wales are relying more and more on computers to support them in their daily tasks. Unfortunately most organisations are unable to budget for ICT (Information Communication Technology) which can often become a major problem when their equipment starts to fail. Voluntary Action Merthyr Tydfil have been fortunate to fund and ICT officer in the past who’s role also includes providing free ICT support to Voluntary Groups and Organisations within Merthyr Tydfil. Regrettably, it is becoming increasingly unlikely that we will be able to access future funding to continue providing the service. As part of our plans for the future, we are assessing the viability of a social enterprise to provide an ICT support services for Merthyr Tydfil and it’s surrounding areas for the foreseeable future and to provide opportunities for training. Although there will inevitably have to be a cost for this service we are looking at making it an affordable rate for all.
With this in mind VAMT have developed a short questionnaire. If you are a voluntary group or organisation within Merthyr or the surrounding area we would appreciate 5 minutes of your time to complete the short MR Questionairre form, available to download below, and return it or e-mail it to the address indicated on the document.
